A Drizzle of Honey with Your Cheese
Sweet honey makes a delicious contrast to the saltiness of cheese. It’s also one of the easiest ways to add a little flair to your cheese plate, especially with one of our Clif Family Honey Spreads. The creamy texture and subtle but bright flavors are a perfect way to enhance your cheese selection.
It’s important to remember that a little bit of honey goes a long way, so be sure to use it sparingly. You don’t want to drown out the flavor of the cheese, rather the goal is to enhance the flavors. We recommend adding a dish with a small spoon to your cheese platter or drizzling raw honey right on top of the cheese. You can even place the jar of honey right on the cheese board with a small spoon.
Chef John recommends these Honey Spread and Cheese Pairings:
Cinnamon Solar Grown™ Honey Spread – Made with Ceylon Cinnamon, this bright spread has notes of pine, citrus peel, and sea salt. Pair with a soft and creamy cheese like Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt Tam.
Ginger Solar Grown™ Honey Spread – Buffalo Ginger gives this spread light floral and fruity notes. Sweet and zingy, we recommend pairing with a washed rind cheese like Cowgirl Creamery’s Red Hawk.
Cacao Solar Grown™ Honey Spread – Made with cacao from Kokoa Kamili, a co-op in Tanzania, these two flavors come together, creating a rich and decadent spread. We recommend pairing with Bellwether Farms Pepato.
As for what wine to pair with your cheese and honey plate? A dry white wine is best. We recommend our 2018 Oak Knoll Sauvignon Blanc.
