Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Blog Post By Sarah Richmond
At Clif Family Winery, sustaining our planet has been part of our business ethos and mission from the start. We believe in creating quality wine and food products, with purpose, using practices that care for the earth without jeopardizing quality of life for future generations.
In addition to implementing organic farming methods at our farm and vineyards and supporting the organic certification of our co-packing partners, we strive to be as mindful about our packaging as we are about the food and grapes we grow. This is why we actively seek to reduce our carbon footprint year after year, including expanding the life cycle of our packaging.
We are delighted to share that we recently transitioned our organic Dark Chocolates and organic Savory Nut Mix packaging to eco-friendly materials that reduce our environmental impact.
The new organic Dark Chocolate packaging includes pre-printed paper tubes made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified materials that can be recycled or reused. Along with this minimalistic packaging, we launched a new flavor, Dark Chocolate Toffee Crunch, an irresistibly delicious treat of handcrafted buttery toffee wrapped in creamy dark chocolate!
The new Savory Nut Mix pouches are approved by How2Recycle’®s Store Drop-Off program, so you can take them to your local retail store for recycling. Click here to find a list of participating stores near you.
In addition to our own efforts towards more sustainable packaging, we are excited to share that our local coffee partner, Naysayer Coffee, recently transitioned their packaging to a biodegradable and compostable bag by Biotre. The new coffee bags are on display in our Tasting Room and available for purchase.
In short, we believe businesses can—and should—put people and the planet first. That’s why we prioritize sustainable ingredient sourcing, farming, packaging, employment practices, and philanthropy at Clif Family. These values continue to propel us forward towards an earth-friendly, people-friendly, lower-carbon future.
