Buzzing for Vanilla Honey
Blog Post By Linzi GayVanilla may mean “plain” in some circles, but at Clif Family, vanilla is a complex flavor to be celebrated. This aromatic spice comes in many forms and is often considered the most popular spice in the world. And just like wine grapes, vanilla is influenced by terroir, the natural environment in which it is grown including soil, topography and climate.
That’s what makes the Nyanza Vanilla in our newest Solar Grown™ Honey Spread flavor so enticing. Grown in the hills around Nyanza (or Lake Victoria) in Tanzania, the altitude, temperate climate and rich soil result in an exceptionally rich and sweet vanilla. The vine-ripened pods are sun-dried during the day and cured in wooden boxes overnight. The Nyanza Vanilla used in our Solar Grown Honey comes from our friends at Burlap & Barrel, a Public Benefit Corporation based in New York. Burlap & Barrel scours the world to source spices directly from farmer cooperatives and small farms.
We gently blend this Nyanza Vanilla with raw honey to create a creamy honey spread. The Raw Honey has a unique story of its own. Harvested from hives located on or around pollinator-friendly solar farms, Solar Grown honey promotes clean energy development and biodiversity while supporting small farmers with economic opportunities. It’s a great way to multiply the benefits of clean energy development. You can learn more about the benefits of Solar Grown here.
There are many ways to enjoy our Vanilla Solar Grown Honey Spread. Here are a few of our favorites:
PB & Vanilla: Substitute the jam for our Vanilla Honey Spread. Top with fresh sliced bananas for an extra special treat.
Spice up Your Cup of Tea: Stir into hot tea to add a creamy richness or make Sweet Vanilla Iced Tea for a hot day cool down.
Sugar Replacement: Replace processed sugar when baking or use as a low-sugar glaze on an apple cake.
Cheese Platter Spice-Up: Honey pairs deliciously with cheese and we prefer Cowgirl Creamery’s Hop Along Cheese with our Vanilla Solar Grown Honey.
