Honey bees are an important part of farming at Clif Family Farm. Our goal is not just honey production, or even strictly pollination. Our goal is to maintain a healthy apiary, farm and forest. One way we achieve this is by planting flowers, trees, and shrubs that provide a better diet for our bees. We also are experimenting with old style log hives that provide a healthier home for bees. In keeping with our sustainable and organic farming methods, we never use non-organic pesticides, and we are also very careful about limiting the amount of organic pesticides that we use. All this not only makes for good honey bee habitat, it provides a valuable food source for other pollinators like native bumble bees and hummingbirds.
